• Fruit fly in cucurbits

• Fruit fly is the most problematic insect pest of the cucumber group plants (cucurbits)
•    It is sever pest in bitter guard, ridgeguard,cucumber,bottle guard ..etc

• Fly is mixing with reddish brown with yellow markings on body  with spotted wings

Life cycle includes

• eggs, maggots ,pupa, adult

•  The adult penetrate into the rind and lays eggs in the pulp eggs period 1-9 days

• only  maggots can cause the damage and feeds  inner pulp and  bacterial infection takes place

• Fruits at early stage also are attacked. Such fruits do not develop.
• The fruit are  decay due to bacterial infection and get foul smell
• The fruits are dropped in early stages
• The fully grown maggot puppate in  the soil

• By using traps 15/acres to effective control of fly
• CUE LURE” is an effective attractant being used to trap for cucurbits fruit fly

• Caution 1 fruits are harvested only before spraying
•               2 spraying should be done under surfaces of leaves
• For killing of pupas poison baits are used
• Poison baiting with malathion 100 ml + sugar/jaggery 100 g as saturated solution + water 1 litre distributed in earthen lids.
