IN COTTON , SUCKING PESTS LIKE APHIDS, LEAHOPPERS, THRIPS ,WHITEFLIES AND MEALYBUGS INFEST  COTTON DURING EARLY STAGES

Sucking pests pierce plants and suck the plant sap. Withdrawal of the sap results in minute white, brown, or red spotting on the leaves, fruits, or stems of the plant. It cause curling leaves, deformed fruit, general wilting, browning, and drying of the entire plant      

COTTON APHIDS

Both nymphs and adults suck the sap by remaining on the lower surface of the leaves.

SYMPTOMS APPEAR IN LEAVES

  •  Curled, faded and dried leaves.
  •  Development of black sooty mould due to honeydew excretion on leaves and affected parts

LEAF HOPPER

The nymph as well as adult they suck the sap from the leaves and the symptoms are appear , a toxin through saliva into the plant tissue, resulting in hopperburn

  • the leaf margins turning yellowish initially and after turning reddish and curling up.
  • Stunted growth of the plant

COTTON THRIPS

  • Both Nymphs and adults suck sap from leaves ,affected leaves margins get slightly curled up and the leaf blades show uneven surface
  • And when suck sap in flowering stage , the affected flowers may wither away.

IT IS A VECTOR OF YELLOW SPOT VIRUS AND SPOTTED WILT VIRUS

WHITE FILES

  • Both nymphs and adults suck sap from lower side of leaves resulting in
  • Chlorotic spots can  coalesce forming irregular yellowing of leaves it can be extends from veins to outer edges.
  • During in early stages growth was gradually reduces and boll formation can hammered and opening of boll is abnormal and also decline the quality of lint and market value
  • On infested parts sooty mould development take place due secretion of honey dew
  • It is also vector for leaf curl virus
  • During july the infestion is maximum, because of high temperature and low humidity

MEALYBUG IN COTTON

  • it is a minor pest it infect the all aeial parts of the crop
  • it  suck the sap from parts of leafs,branches,bolls,stems
